English translation below the Dutch review

Een tijdje geleden was ik in de Zeeman en zag ik deze wol die ik niet kon laten liggen. Ik heb hem gekocht en heb een kleine review geschreven voor jullie, zodat jullie weten of hij het waard is! Ik heb de blauw-groene versie gekocht (kleurnummer 60)

Op de bal garen staat dat je een 4 of 5 mm haaknaald kan gebruiken, maar voor amigurumi had ik een 3mm haaknaald nodig.

Recensie

Toen ik ging haken merkte ik meteen dat het garen heel stroef haakte. Het haakte fijner als ik een 3.5mm haaknaald gebruikte, maar dan kon je de vulling zien doordat er te veel gaten ontstonden.

De gemaakte knuffel was zoals verwacht: hij was wat hard en stijf, ik zou deze wol niet gebruiken als de knuffel bedoeld was voor een baby of peuter. Ook werd het eindresultaat wat pluizig.

De kleurveranderingen waren heel opeens, het kon dus zijn dat een steek donkerblauw was en de steek daarna mintkleurig. Ik vind het normaal mooier als de overgang wat vloeiender is, vooral als het verschil tussen de kleuren groot is. Er was ook maar een klein stukje van iedere kleur, dus om de 3-6 steken had je een heel andere kleur. Hierdoor zag het eindresultaat er was slordig uit, omdat er zo veel verschillende kleuren waren.

Conclusie

Ik denk dat ik voortaan deze wol alleen gebruik voor kleine stukjes. Dan haak ik er dus wat details mee, maar als hoofdkleur vond ik hem niet zo geschikt.

Ik ben vergeten om uitgebreid foto’s te maken, aangezien ik vooral blij was dat de knuffel af was! Maar het is de meest rechtse knuffel in dit rijtje (patroon, inclusief Nederlandse vertaling, staat op de pagina van Knot Forgotten)

A while ago I walked past the Dutch store Zeeman and I found this cheap yarn that looked really nice. So I figured I’d write a small review so you know whether to buy it or leave it in the store! I am reviewing the blue-green variegated yarn (number 60).

Review

Something I immediately noticed was that the yarn is very scratchy – it doesn’t crochet very smooth. The yarn crocheted more smooth if I used a 3.5mm hook, but then the stuffing was showing.

The end result was as I expected with the scratchy yarn: it was a bit stiff, I wouldn’t use this yarn if the end result was meant for a baby or very young child. The yarn also has the tendency to fluff a bit.

The color changes were very abrubt, which meant one stitch could be dark blue and then the next would be bright mint. I personally prefer it when there is more of a natural transition if the colors are so far apart. It also didn’t help that there was only a few centimeter of every color, so you only had 3-6 stitches of every color. This meant that the end result came out looking a bit messy, since the colors were all over the place.

Conclusion

In the future, I might use this yarn sparingly. Maybe I’ll crochet a few details with it, but I didn’t like it as a main color.

I actually forgot to take nice result pictures since I was just happy to be done with this yarn! But it’s the most right toy in this line (patterns by Knot Forgotten)
