Last month was Pride month in the USA and tomorrow is the start of Pride week in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). So it’s time to share some patterns to show your pride!
I made two versions which both have the same rainbow. One has a red heart and black braid, the colors of the most well-known rainbow pride flag. The other has a black-brown heart (to represent marginalised LGBT communities of colour, those living with AIDS, and those no longer living) and the braid pastel blue, pink and white (the colors of the Transgender Pride Flag), this version is inspired by the “LGBTQ+ rainbow” flag designed by Daniel Quasar.
I love reading so I will definitely get some use out of this bookmark. Do you have any favourite queer books? I’d love some recommendations in the comments.

Miscellaneous
I made my bookmark with a 2.5 mm crochet hook and Scheepjes Catona yarn.
The rainbow and heart are started by working in the round.
Pattern
Heart
Using red yarn, in magic ring:
ch1, tc, dc, sc2, ch2, sc2, dc, tc, ch1, slst.
Fasten off and weave the ends in.
(if you prefer learning from a video, you can find it on my youtube channel WithLoveFeli or follow this link).
String
Cut 2 strings of black yarn: one about 35cm and one 60cm. Use longer pieces of yarn for a longer bookmark.
Thread the long piece through the middle of the heart. Weave the start of the short piece though the heart. Now braid these pieces together until your braid is the desired length.
Rainbow
Purple: 1. sc6 in magic ring (6)
Blue: 2. inc 6x (12)
Green: 3. (inc, sc) 6x (18)
Yellow: 4. (inc, sc2) 6x (24)
Orange: 5. (inc, sc3) 6x (30)
Take the end of your braid and thread it through the middle of the rainbow circle (so through the magic ring in purple). Make a big double knot in the end so it cannot go through the hole.
Fold the circle in two so you have a half circle, with the end of the braid and the other ends of the yarn hidden in the fold. Crochet around the rim of this half circle, crocheting through two layers at a time.
Red: 6. (inc, sc4) 3x (18)
Finish off
Variations
If you want, you can also make variations of this bookmark with different colored hearts and braids.
For example, I also made a bookmark where the braid is made using the colors of the trans flag and the heart is half black, half brown – to represent the progress pride flag.
